Video subtitles: Die besten Bars und Clubs Deutschlands || Best-Of GERMAN-NESS (3/4)
GERMAN-NESS comes to you today with a Best-of nightlife.
A classic night of partying normally begins with a good drink in a cosy bar.
And I was allowed to have a proper pre-drink for GERMAN-NESS.
The Kumpelnest (Mates' Nest) Yes, we're already there!
Hey! Good to see you.
This used to be a brothel.
And 28 years ago someone thought of turning it into a bar.
We'll sing to the sea
To love, if you please
But never fall in again! No!
Yes sir, yes sir!
This is the Thelonious Bar,
named after the great American jazz pianist Thelonious Monk.
We are a very traditional cocktail bar with a modern twist,
we play a lot of jazz, as the name suggests.
From the jazz district of Berlin we now come to Frankfurt's hip hop scene.
Celo from the rap duo Celo and Abdi is showing me the nightlife in the Main metropolis.
I like coming to Allerheiligenstra?e, most of my friends hang around here.
Here at the Smoke Lounge at 4 Allerheiligenstra?e.
It's great here, no one pesters you here.
There's no one here on a self-pity trip, instead, as I said,
everyone's trying to keep their head above water, just fighting on.
Someone else who's pushing through in Frankfurt is rapper and bar owner, Schwesta EWA.
- So, Ewa, the Stoltze Bar. - Yeah.
Is it called Stoltze Bar 'coz it's on Stoltze Street?
Stoltze Bar, on Stoltze Street, and read this:
Friedrich Stoltze, 1816 to 1891, journalist from Frankfurt.
- And dialect poet. - Yep.
Stoltze Bar is perfect!
Yeah, and Ewa is the proud owner of the bar.
Of course. Ewa is totally proud.
Honour and pride, that's what Schwesta Ewa is all about.
Tell me, Ewa, what else would you recommend to drink here? This tastes great.
- Some other hit that I…? - Yeah, sure.
My Polish shot. Zlota Polska.
What do we say?
Bravo. She knows it! Frankfurt gang!
Nastrovje, Kurwa! Nastrovje!
Hmm...I'll take...this one.
That Polish hazelnut liqueur has warmed us up.
So let's go to the club.
Is this your joint? The Prince Charles?
That's my joint. I run it together with my partners.
The Prince Charles and the Parker Bowles Restaurant, just up the street.
And we've been doing that for almost 4 years.
I can somewhat tell by your voice.
Yeah, nightlife takes its toll.
It looks like this used to be a swimming pool once.
It did. Not a public swimming pool
but the employee swimming pool of the piano manufacturer Bechstein.
What is now the bar used to be the pool
And what is now the dance floor used to be the sauna area.
Same city, totally different party crowd.
Glamour queen Nina Queer is showing me her "Irrenhouse Party".
Next I'm meeting Albert Just, better known as Party Gandalf.
Albert is a wizard and gets up to his mischief in the party and art scene.
Today, he's taking me with him.
Hello Claire! Make yourself at home but don't tidy up.
How long have you been wizarding?
– I'm not a wizard any more. I never was a wizard. – What did you do?
I was always Albert, who likes to be silly, with a penchant for magic.
So I say "hey let's go"! Night is coming!
Yoohoo, electro house! Look out of the window!
Moloch is the last stop
Albert is very fit for his age. I felt old next to Albert.
If you feel just as old in the nightlife scene as I did next to Albert
you can change to conscious clubbing.
These parties take place early in the morning before work. They serve smoothies instead of alcohol,
and you can trade in the dance floor for a yoga mat.
It sounds strange but that's how it is.
Wow! All these people got up early today
to dance to the beats of Alle Farben before work.
The great mood is contagious – and so we dive into the dancing crowd, too.
– Marta, you organise "Morning Gloryville". – Yes.
What exactly can people do at the party?
There are free yoga sessions,
or live painting. There's a lot to do!
There is no alcohol, you don't serve alcohol.
No alcohol, it's "Conscious Clubbing". Partying but being conscious of it.
Starting the day, going to work with a positive energy.
Yes, a great positive energy.
That was GERMAN-NESS Best-of nightlife.
