Tricky policy to actually get in but if you do get in (don't go in big groups of one sex) then it's pretty nice in there. Drinks are pretty expensive (cheaper before 1am) and it only gets busy later on so it's a bit quiet early doors. But they have good bands and DJs on and it's a 'cool' crowd. It's a small place though and gets full of smoke, still takes some getting used to if you're from the UK. Worth a look though if you're in a couple and want something different.

At this was open until 6am I was expecting something a but dodgy but it turned out to be a really nice venue with good sound. One night was playing funk and soul. Another night was a busier Erasmus and pub crawl night and it was packed. The DJ played a bit of dance then hip-hop then pop so catered to all tastes. The bar staff are a bit weird. My friend tried to pay on card and was told she needed ID to do so. She didn't have any so the barmaid poured two rum and cokes (worth 14 euros) down the sink! Why not just give it to her/take the card payment?!

Great atmosphere. Friendly and cool people. Mixed crowd. Reasonable entry prices. We visited on Saturday night and there was house music playing. We enjoyed the music a lot more on the Sunday when they played a mix of soul, disco, funk and blues.

Unique place and location,  they offer a big variety of live concerts and music genres. Drinks are not cheap but still its  a must visit location for anyone that loves music. Vintage look inside. Entrance requires a ticket purchase but its usually from 6-10euros.

Excellent venue
Came here to see Frank Turner and loved the place. It's a good tight little space, narrow and deep with the stage at one end and great sound quality - perfect setting for a show. The place is also a historic building in it's own right, set in a bridge under the road that heads up to the Barrio Alto. There is a decent sized bar to one side. We loved it and had a great night.

Don't go here if you're a single woman
I went to Musicbox to dance to some afrobeat. There was a line at the door but I went to security and got let in right away, great. 10E cover, which included a drink, fine. They only have Heineken on tap, I assumed they would at least have Super Bock, OK.

But I didn't even stay long enough to have a drink. The crowd was all men.

There were a few other women with their boyfriends, but under 10, out of a crowd of at least 100-150 people. No groups of ladies or anything. I was so uncomfortable, I could feel so many eyes following me. So I left immediately, didn't even bother talking to the door people or anything, I just wanted to get out of there! I went to Sabotage across the street and ended up staying out until 6 am.

It was really too bad about the atmosphere of Musicbox because the afrobeat was great!

Good place but....
The music (électro that night) was ace and the security agents were nice BUT the staff at the bar and the entry were really unpleasant!!! We never got a smile and They re not helpful at all...we couldnt find thé ticket to get our jacket back so we had to argue badly though ther were not much people that night and almost nobody at This time of the night!!! Careful then if you need to leave your stuff...it s a shame cuz it ruined the end of the night..

This is my favourite music venue in Lisbon. It's small and cozy, with just one main area that you walk into-- but there's more than enough space to rave or dance up front, and several comfy couches towards the back. The sound quality is always excellent, and the musicians never fail to please. I've seen techno, electronic, indie-ballads, and more at this wonderful, intimate venue.

If MusicBox's single bar was well stocked, I would give this place five stars. Unfortunately, the drinks are a bit boring and overpriced. That being said, entry is always quite affordable so you can afford to spend a bit on drinks if you haven't had enough pre-drinks outside.

Tons of fun.  Starts to get popping later in the night.  Like 1am-ish.  Good music and fair prices for cocktails.

If you want to listen to music in a low-key place, with great ambiance, not too crowded, and bands that you'll actually enjoy, this is the place to go. Some of the concerts start really late, but the concert calendar is usually very good with many new bands to discover.

Very good DJ on the night I visited. Arrived at 3am left at 5:30am. No problem with security, very friendly.
Arrived with a group of 10. Entry was €15 with any 2 free drinks of your choice included. Shots for €3/€3.50.
Air conditioned party room, only 1 dance floor. In general a good atmosphere.
Would recommend.

Description

Open in 2006, the Musicbox has become the lung of the Rua Nova do Carvalho and even more : all over the district of Cais do Sodré. This hybrid space, between a bar, a concert hall and a nightclub, has one of the most specialized music program of Lisbon, in terms of DJs and live music. To my mind, this club offer the most famous Portuguese musicians currently, even better than Lux Fragil. Why ? Because Musicbox has become a real Portuguese and international talent scout throughout the years. This establishment is cutting-edge, an interesting place if you like alternative programs out of the ordinary.
